The present article aims to continue the research on litany prayer as an inspiration of Cervantes religious poetry, initiated by Patrizia Micozzi and Aurora Egido in their analysis of the song of Feliciana in Persiles. The Christian religion is an important element not only in the latter works of the writer, but also in his earliest texts such as captivity plays and devout poetry. The article examines traces of the Marian litany in the prayers of the captives in Los tratos de Argel, the romance ballad sung by La Preciosa in front of the picture of Santa Ana in La Gitanilla and the song on the ecstasies of blessed Teresa de Jesus written on the occasion of her beatification. In order to determine the influence exerted by the litanic prayer in these texts, we follow the research method proposed by Witold Sadowski ‒ “litanic verse” ‒ which implies the analysis of the formal structure and content of the Cervantine works.
