Competition for the Realisation of Tasks

The leader of the project “Litanic Verse in the Culture of European Regions” announces a competition for the realisation of research tasks.

 

Terms and conditions of the competition

The competition is open to candidates who hold a doctoral degree in the humanities, theology or musical arts.

The competition is also open to doctoral students who prepare their doctoral dissertations in the humanities, theology or musical arts.

The competition is not open to scholars who hold a habilitation degree or an academic title of professor, nor to the candidates whose achievements correspond to the profiles R3 (Established Researcher) or R4 (Leading Researcher), as described on the website Euraxess of the European Commission.

Requirements for the candidates

― academic achievements including texts written in Polish and/or English language in at least one discipline which is important for the research questions of the project; disciplines important for the project are: poetics (especially history or theory of verse, as well as history or theory of literary genres), history of European literature (in particular the history of poetry from the Middle Ages to 1945), history of liturgy (especially the Christian liturgy of the ancient and medieval period), history of European music (especially medieval liturgical music) and history of European folk culture up to the 19th century;

― meeting one or both of the two criteria: linguistic skills that allow to study the poetry of at least one European country which has played a relevant role in the history of litanic verse, or a proposal of at least one article devoted to the non-literary contextual factors of the evolution of litanic verse.
Candidates should submit*:

1. Curriculum vitae including information about education, academic career, as well as academic, teaching and organisational achievements;

2. Documents enumerated in one or both subsections below**:

2a. Declaration of the scope of participation in the project*** together with the documents or publications which prove linguistic skills of the candidate,

2b. Proposal of at least one academic article devoted to the non-literary contextual factors of the evolution of litanic verse (each proposal of an article should be between 1,000 and 2,000 characters long);
3. List of the candidate’s publications from the last five years;

4. Selected publications that are representative of the candidate’s work, published in the last 5 years, altogether consisting of 40,000 up to 120,000 characters (submitting a piece of work in Polish or English is recommended but not mandatory)****.
*) Documents should be submitted either in Polish or in English, either in paper or in electronic format. In the case of the electronic version the copies of the publications should be sent as pdf files. The candidates who participate in the competition for research assistants within the same project need not to submit the documents. Yet if they wish to submit a proposal of the article on the non-literary contextual factors of the evolution of litanic verse, they just need to send the document mentioned in point 2b to the e-mail address given below.
**) Candidates who propose to study only the history of litanic verse in a selected language area (or in a few language areas), submit the documents mentioned in point 2a. Other candidates submit the documents mentioned in point 2b. One can also submit the documents mentioned in both points.
***) The form of the Declaration of the scope of participation in the project should be downloaded from the website of the project www.wiersz.uw.edu.pl.
****) Either an original publication or its copy may be submitted. In the case of the copy one should also submit a copy of the pages that include bibliographical information. Academic achievements may also comprise of unpublished fragments of doctoral dissertation. All texts accepted for publication should be accompanied by a letter from the publisher.

The competition will be adjudicated by the Competition Committee on the basis of the documents submitted by the candidates and in accordance with the terms of the competition which have been accepted by the Council of the Faculty of Polish Studies, University of Warsaw.

Not more than 20 persons selected in the competition will receive research tasks to be conducted under a contract for specific work. Altogether the maximum of 30 research tasks may be offered, yet none of these tasks may involve the skills possessed by the persons employed in the project as research assistants or appointed to be employed in this way on the basis of a separate competition. The salary will be paid in 2015 after the completion of the tasks included in the contract.
